Wellness Wednesdays: Edition #15

Welcome to Your 15th Wellness Wednesday Newsletter!

Hey everyone!

Today we're exploring 4 biggest nutrition lies that Americans are subject to! You do not want to miss any of them, trust me!. Let's dive in!

#1. "Eggs are bad for your cholesterol" 🥚

The Truth: Eggs are actually a nutritional powerhouse, and should not be avoided.

Eggs are rich in high-quality protein, vitamins, and minerals. In fact, they are one of few foods that are a great source of Vitamin D and choline.

They contain "good" HDL cholesterol, which is beneficial for your body (in moderation).

Studies show no link between proper egg consumption and increased heart disease risk in most people.

Egg-cellent Tip: Enjoy up to 1-3 eggs per day as part of a balanced diet (unless you have overly high cholesterol). They're versatile and can be prepared in countless delicious ways! 🍳

#2. "Carbs make you gain weight" 🍞

The Truth: Not all carbs are the same, stop listening to the Instagram influencers that are “nutritionists” and “dietitians.”

It has been proven that complex carbs like whole grains provide essential nutrients and fiber.

Additionally, they're a crucial energy source for your body and brain.

The most important thing to keep in mind is choosing whole grains over refined carbs (like white bread, candy, and soda).

Carb Control: Opt for whole grains, fruits, and vegetables instead of processed foods and sugary snacks. Your body and mind will thank you!

Did you know? Fiber-rich carbs can actually help with weight management by keeping you feeling full longer ✅

#3. "Zero-sugar foods are healthy" 🍬

The Truth: Many "zero-sugar" foods are laced with harmful artificial sweeteners!

Artificial sweeteners like sucralose and aspartame are worse than sugar, in many ways.

While they have no calories, they can severely disrupt gut bacteria and lead to metabolic issues, increased danger for the kidneys, and more.

Furthermore, some studies suggest they may increase cravings for sweet foods.

The products they are found in often lack nutritional value and contain other unhealthy additives.

Artificially sweetened, ultra-processed foods, have also been linked to depression in women!

Sweet Fact: Gradually reducing artificial sweeteners and added sugars will boost your mood, memory, lead to weight loss, and make room for health, not illness.

Try this: Opt for dark chocolate (or the other alternative in the picture below) to satisfy your sweet tooth instead of reaching for artificially sweetened snacks!

#4. "Margarine is healthier than butter" 🧈

The Truth: This one might shock you - many types of margarine can be worse than butter!

Several varieties of margarine contain trans fats, which are linked to heart disease and poor brain function.

Most types of butter, in moderation, provide essential nutrients like vitamins A, E, and K2.

Grass-fed butter can also be a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, which boost memory, focus, and control mood.

Spread the Word: If you choose margarine, look for trans-fat-free options. Better yet, consider using small amounts of real butter or heart-healthy olive oil.
